Modern Twist of Kar Looi Pheng (Wedding Pastries)

|
Did you know instead of the usual pair of kar looi pheng (wedding pastries) that consists of round flaky pastries filled with red bean or lotus paste, you can now find them in different varieties of biscuits or cakes in beautiful and contemporary gift boxes.

At Bee's Confectionery, you can mix traditional pastries with cakes of your choices and they came in a rather tasteful packaging.

Yong Sheng Gift Shop is a famous confectionery in Muar, Johor. Over the years they have expanded to Malacca and now in USJ, Selangor. They have a wide choices of traditional pastries and you can also opt for cupcakes or pineapple cakes to be included in the gift boxes.

For a little extravaganza, you can also pick this round tin to present the goodies which we think it's really something out of the norm.

Confessions of a Wedding Planner: 5 Signs a Couple Will Crash and Burn

|
We were surfing the usual and stumbled upon this piece by Samantha Goldberg, a wedding planner who has orchestrated the nuptials of hundreds of couples. And because she works closely with soon-to-be-hitched couples, she knows what makes and breaks lasting love. Here, she spills the predictors of whether a couple will live happily ever after or bite the dust.

Confessions of a Wedding Planner: 5 Signs a Couple Will Crash and Burn
by Cosmopolitan.com, on Mon Jun 22, 2009 8:58am PDT

1. The Bride Refuses to Let the Groom Choose the Cake

"Brides are almost always more interested in the minutiae of wedding planning than grooms are. But when I encounter a woman who refuses to relinquish any control to her fiancé, it doesn't bode well. I can think of a few instances in which the woman ruled the event with an iron fist and the couple ended up in divorce court a few years later. Basically, they weren't able to make decisions together."

2. The Groom Lets His Mom Call the Shots

"Most of my brides involve their moms in the planning process, and why wouldn't they? It's like having a second planner for free. But sometimes, grooms' mothers try to muscle in too, which is something I'll never understand. Not only is it inappropriate, but it's up to her son to tell her that."

3. The Bride Blows Half the Budget on Her Dress

"Weddings are pricier than ever, and money-related issues can cause a lot of undue tension. So when a bride goes behind her groom's back and splurges on a big-name dress or expensive flower arrangements, I start to get nervous. It's a huge sign that she doesn't respect him and refuses to compromise...and trust me, those tendencies don't disappear after she walks down the aisle. I have worked with tons of couples who fought viciously over the wedding budget and learned later that many of them continued to argue and eventually split."

4. The Bride Freaks Over the Groom's Bachelor Party

"I've seen some women wig out about the possibility of her guy having a boys' night at a strip club. One client of mine even threatened to leave her fiancé if he had a bachelor party. But my motto is: If you can't trust him, why the hell are you walking down the aisle?!"

Wondering how wild typical prewedding bashes can get? Read Cosmo's Confessions of a Bachelor Party Stripper.

5. The Bride and Groom Fight in Front of Me

"No matter how in love two people may be, planning a ceremony and reception is overwhelming and will no doubt cause a few tiffs. But warning bells immediately start ringing for me if the couple gets really heated with each other in my presence. Arguments are private, and dragging me into them shows that there is a lack of respect for each other and for their bond."

Get The Groom Involved

|
Guys were never built to be the same as ladies. Ladies usually have this wedding thingy implanted into them since they were young, easily visualising how one day their dream wedding could turn out. Where else the guys usually don't think about their weddings until the time comes. They don't fret about the teeny weeny details which seems important to the ladies.

Although some brides are happy to take control in the planning but some would love the participation from the groom. The Weddings Page came across this article by Teresa Morgado on how to get him involved which was featured in weddingsbell.

Ask for his help. Since wedding plans tend to be taken on by the bride, some grooms don’t know they are allowed to help out.

Define specific tasks for him. He will be more inclined to get things done if he knows exactly what his responsibilities are. Make sure these tasks are things he will be interested in doing. Guys don’t care much about flowers and linens so assign him tasks that he will want to do.

Ask him what he wants to see at the wedding. Incorporating his tastes and asking his opinion will make him want to participate more.

Let him take on the responsibility of organizing his groomsmen. This includes: picking their attire, letting them know when and where to be, and talking to them about speeches or any other special responsibilities they will have.

Make Your Own Personalised Stamps

|
Little did we know that Pos Malaysia have launched this SetemKu service back in 2007. SetemKu is catered for individuals or corporates to personalised their postage stamps by featuring their images. These images are placed together with the base stamp which will form a valid postage stamp.

There are four basic designs available ie. flower bouquet designs for get well, good luck, weddings; teddy bear and balloon for births, birthdays or baby showers; hearts for Valentine's Day, engagement, weddings or anniversaries and a national icon for general greetings.

So imagine having your pre-wedding photo featured in a postage stamp to be used for mailing invites... your guests will be so thrilled to keep them as souvenir. You could also use your event photos to send your thank you cards.

The procedures in placing your orders were clearly lined out but basically, all you need to do is fill in the downloadable form with your information, select the package and submit your photo. It will take around seven days for the stamps to be readied but we would advise you to place your bulk order earlier, allowing Pos Malaysia ample time to deliver your personalised stamps.

Also, please bear in mind that you will need authorisation letter from the individuals featured and also from the person who owns the intellectual properties of the photo.

There are three packages, Emerald; Diamond; and Ruby, and each package are priced from RM500. For Emerald you can get 34 stamp sheets of 30 sen stamps each; you can derived 12 sheets of 30 sen stamps each and 13 sheets of 50 sen stamps each from the Diamond package; and Ruby will gives you 20 sheetlets of 50 sen stamps each or 400 stamps. You'll be charged accordingly for additional stamp sheets needed.

Green Favours

|
Apart from the unique Fruit Favours, you could actually go green, literally. Yeah since everyone is on the bandwagon, so may as well.

Guests take home Granny Smith apples with thank-you tags. Alternatively, the apple can be wrapped in clear cellophane paper tied with ribbons.

Packages of seeds can be placed inside tiny flowerpots filled with green confetti. When your guests got home, they can plant the seeds in soil, water it and wait for them to grow!

You can get potted herbs which can be found at Cold Storage, Village Grocers or perhaps Genting Garden could suppy mass order at a cheaper rate. Then placed them in galvanised or terracotta pots, labeled with garden sticks or decorated ice-cream sticks (can be found in craft stores).

Couple can make these themselves by placing lucky bamboo into test tubes and tie them up with ribbons; put three stalks of lucky bamboo in square vases with river rocks; or plant them into pots or Japanese teacups. They looked fabulous!

Jellybeans in shades of green can be given as favours to the guests either in glass jars or bagged them in cellophane papers and tie with ribbons.

Guests can be given small craft paper boxes of Hershey’s kisses, candies or chocolates that were tied with green ribbons. Especially great when green is the couple’s signature theme or colour. Otherwise, green boxes with cream ribbons can do the trick as well. Boxes made out of bamboo sticks make great container as well. The Weddings Page spotted these boxes at Central Market but they were in their natural colour, perhaps you can arrange to have them stained green or just wrap them up with green ribbons to complete the green look.

Sugar cookies iced with the couple’s monogram or apple shaped cookies iced in green are the perfect sweet favour. Thank you note can be attached to each cookie with a pretty ribbon.

On the local front, E-Tree Home (call them at +603 2283 2488) can provide small potted plants all wrapped nicely with cellophane and personalised ribbons or pots filled with flowers with your thank you note or place card clipped with wooden pegs.
